Jejak Kasih

Jejak Kasih Reunion Clifford School Kuala Kangsar

Salam Datuk, Skot dan Yop Yop yang dihormati,

During when we were in RMC I remember that only once, that the Commandant gave a talk or lectured on a subject. To be in the presence of the most highest ranking officer of that esteem military training instituition demands the highest degree of quality or excellence not only from we Cadets but also by those instructors that keep reminding and ensuring and expect that everybody is in their best orderly conduct 'militarily'. As this is no ordinary lecture as it comes from the Commandant himself, the lesson was taught not by just through distributing hand out of précisé but including watching a western movie 'The Deserter in a teatre before that and the subject was on the Principles of War. Please watch the movie on the link as provided below.

You need to have a mine as sharp as a steel trap to memorise and to remember that there are altogether 10 principles of war including secrecy and surprise etc. In his lecture, Col Syed Hamzah, the RMC Commandant asked us where in the scene in the movie that exhibits the element of secrecy. You don't expect those plate K Cadets or those that hailed from Kg Kuala Pari, Ipoh to have the fortitude and determination or guts just to stand up infront of the Commandant so to be recoqnised let alone knowing the answer. However a well oriented exBoys Wing Skot though looks unsure initially told those present in the teatre and indicating a scene in the film where two guys were stalking into the enemy camp from the ridge of a cliff and one of them got caught by the rope he was cutting and slip down and though his colleague tried to pull him up however they both fell to their death but did not make a noise or scream as they went down .. and that was the element of secrecy. That Skot recieved an expression of approval, commendation, or admiration from the Commandant but unfortunately for him, his career or tour of duty during his service in the military does not end up as one of those highest ranking Generals among us but a Skot from Setiawan did and as Maj General retired and.you know who. Well that's what the army is all about.

Kik kik kik. Ape he pun riuh le PWTC.. hari itu.

After almost 40 years being MIA, I finally managed to track down a Skot yang bersama pergi interbiu untuk masuk Pre Octu. Bertujuan untuk bertemu beliau, teman menghubungi Skot Rahman Besi dan Skot Rashid PAS dan mengajak deme untuk pergi berjalan jalan tapi teman tak bagi tau tujuan dan kemana untuk mempraktikkan surprise and secrecy sebagaimana didalam the Principle of War yang kita belajor semasa diRMC. Kadang kadang dah tua tua ni you got to be creative and walk through the memory lane so to get going or having the momentum in life with lot of humour dan berlapang lapang dada. Semasa bertolak dari romah Man Besi, radio Klasik National, seolah macam dirancang, memainkan lagu sepanjang jalan kenanagan Oleh kerana Skot Man Besi peronah masuk Kolej Pertanian sebelum jadi Pilot, teman tanya kedia kut dia kenal Prof Dr Ismail Hj Hashim yang duduk sesama teman semasa teman kekecik dulu diKampung Chuor, Kati. I infact mentioned him in my book on the subject : The Chuarian.. Pa Hj Salleh Din. I contacted the Prof and passed to Man Besi dan deme pun bersembang cerita lama dan teman terus memandu kereta with Rashid beside me and Man Besi duduk confortably dibelakang. CO le katakan..

If your memory is like an elephant and not just like your body then you ought to remember that there are also ten phases that you got to go through during the interview in order to qualify for the Pre Octu training diKem Sebatang Karah untuk menjadi pegawai askar. While most batches out of over 100 that attended the interview in PD about a dozen or so were finally chosen and later on they went for the final interview to meet the CPS, Gen Dato Wan Ismail however the CPS was busy that day, meeting and greeting a General coming from Indonesia visiting MINDEF. The then Col Mansor (Pak Chot) was assigned to attend to us. Those in my batch that qualified for the final interview in MINDEF were Mej Jen Dato Fazlul Rahman, Lt Kol Kamaludin Recce, Zainal Bahrain, Kamarudin Rjr, Rashid Hassan Basri, Mahmud Arshad, Malik and from theTUDM, Mansor Mahadi, Rosli Misbah, Chong Ah Watt, Hawari and Skot Lt Kol Abdul Rahman Hj Taib and two others Air Force apprentise together with him including Sgt Tahir of EME and two Naval candidates. Semasa berhenti rehat diPetronas Simpang Pulai, teman hubungi Brig Jen Dato Mansor Mohd Yunus informing him sekiranya dia ada kelapangan, teman nak bawak Skot Man Besi dan Skot Rashid untuk datang untuk melawat dia. Another surprise and secrecy as up to this point they both still do not know where about or who that I am taking them to meet.

Tok Mamu Mansor and Nani Jah as I called them were glowing with smile as we enter their house and for about half an hour or so that we spent with them, Dato Pak Chot as he is affectionately known and typical of an Old Soldier non stop bercerita of his glorious days when he was in the army. He told us that he heads the recruitment at that time and instructed the then Mej Lahadhir to focus and specially emphasive to select those candidates from Kedah. Padanlah Man Besi dan those Plate K Skots and guys like Skot Mahmud Pay dapat jadi pegawai.. kik kik kik. We really enjoyed his conversation and were also told that he was one of those instrumental and responsible to form up the First Regimen Renjer DiRaja in 1963 and often been

We then proceed to Stadium Perak untuk makan diRestoren Tasik Raban and meet up with Skot Capt Hawari TUDM who has been MIA or out of touch for so long and Skot Mej Zainal Bahrain followed soon. I invited saudara Faidzal anak kepada Capt Mustaffa Kamal who died of a Nuri crash in Gubir in 1976. Capt Mustaffa Kamal was significant in this jejak kasih for the fact that he was from KPD before joining the Air Force. One other Gubir veteran I met recently is Capt Sudirman of the RGKM. Skot 11, Wak Sudir as he is known now a Dato and resides in TTDI told me that the then Capt Moid of RGKM who I mentioned in a subject 'whatever happened to Baton One', has since passed away.

I immediately inform skot yang sesama pergi interview dulu so we can RV and meet Hawari. Beside Skot Zainal Bahrain the rest yang duduk sekitar Ipoh could not make it.

I've mentioned mind as sharp and a sharp memory and the opposite of which is lost of memory and that's what happened to Hawari during training to be a Pilot at the Alor Star TUDM base. According to him, he was maneuvering to land the Bulldog training aircraft during a bad weather when his instructor shouted and abused him with barrage of punches smashing his bondom (helmet), and scattered the wisor resulting a serious black out atau hilang ingatan for few days to the extend that according to other sources he was admitted for psychiatric. However a close to miracle happened when during a party held at the officers mess, a band was playing a popular song of that time : 'ku cuba' by Clique Fantastique. He was brought in to the mess and as he sang along, telah mengembalikan ingatannya semula and he slumped and started crying. MasyaAllah, I can't imagine what sort of instructor or the fly boys attitude in the Air Force in preparing student. Hawari was chopped and he left the service in 1979 and joint Rothman before becoming the Operation Manager with International Commercial Bank working in Southern Italy for few years. I was made to understand ICB belongs to Tun Daim. If you have a fantastic memory and a passion for music then you should know, that lagu 'ku cuba' itu ialah sandoran kepada lagu 'Evil Ways' by Santana.

Remembering the interviews that we went through in Port Dickson, one of the test is standing in front of the selection panel and to give a talk or speech followed by disscussion among a group of candidates on a given subject apart from medical, physical skill and what have they. You got to conduct the speech in english for about ten minutes and then bercakap pula dalam bahasa Malaysia. That's why you see this write up is initially in English kemudian bertukar ke bahasa Malaysia dan seterusnya caca murba. The Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka will not be impressed as I am not mould to be a Munshi or a Za'ba in language and as most of us is like the 'Deserter', rebellious in our own way. So the mission is achieved dan bukan sahaja dapat menyambungkan silaturrahim dalam jejak kasih dan berjumpa dan bertemu Skot Hawari but also managed to spring a surprise and secrecy. Surprise indeed, Skot Hawari does not resemble half the look as I known him and crippled with chronic gout even Skot Man Besi who has been talking about him earlier on, replied, 'tak tau..' when I aked him, 'Man.. hang kenai dak sapa ni ?. Jovial as we know him, Hawari.. a Broery Marantika look alike that gone wrong during his heyday dan juga peminatnya told us that dia sekarang duduk dan hidup secara orang kampungnya diKuala Pari dan mengusaha kolam ikan dan bela kambing. Talking of his family, dia ngabor yang dia mempunyai tiga orang anak yang tua, perempuan.. dah berumor 32 tahun tapi tak kahwin kahwin lagi. 'Anak aku tinggi.. 5 kaki sebelas inci.

Wassalam,

Z
PS : 2 ke 3 tahun selepas posting diatas, saudara Khassim memaklumkan semasa beliau balik kekampung, mendapat tahu bahawa Skot Hawari telah pun kembali keRahmatullah, None of the Skot or TUDM or the AF as a whole knew and even realised it.
